Celebrini Hurt, Questionable for Saturday’s Game
Macklin Celebrini’s status for Saturday’s game is in question.
Celebrini missed practice on Friday, after a banner NHL debut.
The 2024 first-overall pick scored the first goal and assist of his career on Thursday, a San Jose Sharks’ 5-4 OT loss to the St. Louis Blues.
“Lower body,” San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said, “He’s being evaluated right now.
Will he be ready for the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday?
“He’s still being evaluated today,” Warsofsky said, “so I couldn’t answer that question.”
Did this injury happen during Thursday’s game? Celebrini didn’t play the last 3:42 of the game, though he did return for OT.
“Just lower body, and he’s being evaluated,” Warsofsky said.
Celebrini, of course, dealt with a minor lower-body injury through training camp. Is this related?
“Lower body,” Warsofsky said.
Warsofsky, like wall. Make of all that what you will.
Hopefully, like Celebrini’s camp injury, which led to an early exit during the San Jose Sharks’ Oct. 1 preseason tilt against Utah Hockey Club, this latest issue isn’t much of an issue.
Everything seems to be a non issue, but he doesn’t seem to be getting any healthier. Am I overreacting? Probably. But I’m concerned and I’d like to see him play two consecutive games without a LBI.
He’s 18, playing a man’s game. The Sharks management needs to accept that his talent is well ahead of his ability to handle NHL level punishment.
And to focus on lowering the risks.
I suggested a goal of 75 games averaging 16 minutes a night. Last night, had him at 17:35. Not too far off, but its easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm. In addition to everything else, risk management needs to be part of the equation for Macklin.
75 games would have him top6 from last year’s team. I’d be fine with 55-60 games, honestly.
Good lord you’re like broken record with your 75 game, 16 min a night. To be fair where did you get that number? do have experience developing athletes at any level?
Sports hernia? Groin? Maybe why he gave up on final play. We need him, hope the training staff figured it out quick. Lucky to have a father with a wealth of knowledge.
That’s a question I have. If dad Rick says do one thing while the Sharks training staff says do another thing, who’s Mack going to listen to? It may not come up as Mike Potenza, Sharks head trainer worked w/ Rick at GSW, but still possible. I’m guessing Mack listens to Dad over anything the Sharks say. Dad knows Mack best.
espn says placed on IR.
