It’s from Thursday night’s 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, 21-year-old William Eklund stripping superstar Connor McDavid on the penalty kill. McDavid’s recovery speed keeps Eklund on the backhand, and Stuart Skinner makes the save, but there was a lot to like about that play besides that.
“He wasn’t flat-footed. He had a great stick,” David Quinn said of Eklund the next day. “There was also the desire, which to me is really what that play was all about. He never gave up. He was combative. There was a resiliency to him. That [play] was the result of a bunch of things. But more than anything, a want and desire to make sure that McDavid didn’t skate by him.”
