Locked On Sharks
Our First Mock Draft

Kyle and JD break down the Central Scouting Bureau’s final rankings and some of the shake-ups that might occur. How might this affect the San Jose Sharks? We start with the North American skaters and how some of the Michigan players stacked up. We then dig into the International skaters and how this class might be perceived as weaker than the North American class (10:00). We end with a mock draft of the lottery teams (14:30) — right now, who do we think the San Jose Sharks will draft?

Keep up with all things San Jose Sharks here:
It would be a tough pill to swallow losing out on Eklund. Its impossible not to notice his puck skills which I’d argue a perfect match for SJ’s current powerplay needs.
Would guess they would look hard at Eklund, they certainly haven’t been shy with drafting smaller skill forwards recently
I had a chance to grab one of the top defensemen and since Beniers (my top player and center was already gone) I felt Clarke was the best combo of BPA and need for the Sharks.
I really hope they go forward with a top ten pick unless they can draft Power at 1st or 2nd. He’s the only dman I’d want that high in the draft. Otherwise I agree Eklund, Beniers or Guenther would be better options than a defenseman.
A lot of those guys don’t project to be centers and after drafting all wingers last year. Felt it was best to grab a defenseman in this scenario. I’m sure we will do another mock draft here soon once we know where everyone is actually slotted.
I want Eklund but this is one of the few seasons in Sharks history that I can see them thinking they have no franchise goalie in sight so…
They will probably need to jump Detriot
Well if we land in the top 5 I don’t even think were keeping that pick. Already rumors about Marner being moved and the never ending Jack Eichel drama. I do think SJ wants a big splash like that because the current core is displeased with organization rebuilding talks.
oh please no on JE! i have a feeling he’s 1 hard hit away from being our next EK65.
Actually, its a good thing you mentioned size. Bordeleau is similar in skillset to Eklund but they may need someone who can replicate Couture two way approach maybe more like Mason Mctavish?
McTavish is more likely playing top line wing. he’s better there than at center.
(no particular order) first 3 off the board: Power, Edvinsson, and Beniers.
next 4: Eklund, Hughes, Guenther, and Clarke
last 3 (of the top 10): Johnson, Wallstedt, and McTavish
Lysell, Lucius, Sillinger, Raty just miss the top 10 cut.
actually, i’ll order them: i do believe Power is shaping up to be consensus #1 and that BUF will take him. Ducks are probably looking for a center over D, so Beniers goes next. Seattle will take “The Swede” d-man Edvinsson. NJ will take the Hughes Bro. CBJ is a ? for me and I’m pretty sure Wings take Eklund, so perhaps Clarke to replace Seth Jones? their RD looks to be a weak spot in their pipeline. that would leave Guenther for the Sharks, and LAK take Johnson. since Clarke’s off the board, the Canucks take McTavish since they… Read more »
That’s what I’m thinking if were picking 8 at worst? and don’t have a 2nd round pick to begin with. From what I’ve seen people have Carson Lambos a left shot defensemen going into the teen picks supposedly whose already 200 pounds and can skate well.
Carson Lambos has top pair ceiling, but i think he’s more likely to be an “all situations” middle pair d-man who can play equally well in all 3 zones. not a bad pick if the Sharks decide to move back.
I wonder where Chibrikov is going to go since he looked fantastic at the wj
most of the draft sites have him still listed as bottom half of the 1st round. likely in the 20’s. Central Scouting has him 4th on their Euro list, but that doesn’t really mean much, considering the NA players are much higher regarded. FC Hockey has him 20th; THW (Forbes) 27th/THW (Baracchini) 24th/THW (Zator) 25th; EP 38th; McKeen’s 35th; Dobber 24th; SMAHT Scouting 16th; etc.
Is Power the next….Erik Johnson? Big body, skates well, good first pass……
Dustin Byfuglien is the most likely comparison or a poor man’s Brent Burns.
