Preseason Preview/Lines #5: Musty, Emberson To Make Sharks Debuts
It looks like Quentin Musty will get a pre-season game, after all.
Last week, San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn said, because of an upper-body injury that Musty suffered on the first day of training camp, that the 2023 first-round pick was not likely to get into pre-season action a la 2023 second-rounder Kasper Halttunen. Musty, however, re-joined practice yesterday, and he’s going to make his NHL (pre-season) debut tonight.
Not only is Musty going to play his first game with the San Jose Sharks, he’s also going to line up with William Eklund and Thomas Bordeleau.
Welcome to the future, San Jose Sharks fans.
“See how long it lasts,” Quinn said of his young line tonight, laughing. “That’s the big question.”
That’s just a joke about trying to win a game with three youngster, 33 combined NHL games, as a top-six line. Quinn is as high on Musty as anybody.
“Just his compete, his pace. Which I think he does pretty naturally, that was what impressed me in development camp,” he said. “The skill-set speaks for itself, but I thought he did things fast. There was a pace to his game that you usually don’t see for kids his age, that size.”
Immediately, it’s exciting that Musty is 100 percent healthy. The injury was never described as serious, but it’s good that the 18-year-old winger will be back in full force for the Sudbury Wolves season.
