SJHN Daily: Vernon Going to Hall of Fame, Marleau Joining Sharks Front Office?
Former San Jose Sharks netminder Mike Vernon is headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Vernon, along with Henrik Lundqvist, Tom Barrasso, Pierre Turgeon, and Caroline Ouellette, received their “calls from the Hall” today. Ken Hitchcock and Pierre Lacroix were admitted to the Hall of Fame as Builders.
1997 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Vernon was traded the following season from the Detroit Red Wings to San Jose where he would help the Sharks to back-to-back playoff appearances. He would eventually be traded midway through the 1999-2000 season to the Florida Panthers.
Congratulations to former #SJSharks goalie Mike Vernon on being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Vernon played in 126 regular-season games for San Jose, was the "Sharks Player of the Year" for the 1997-98 season and was a co-winner in 1998-99. https://t.co/JgS6Pu3jCV pic.twitter.com/CMdF9moLKn

Vernon is best remembered as a Calgary Flames legend, where he is second in games played and wins behind another ex-Sharks, Miikka Kiprusoff. Through his career with four different franchises, Vernon was 385-273-92 with a .890 Save Percentage and 2.98 Goals Against Average. He hoisted the Stanley Cup twice, in 1989 with the Flames and in 1997 with the Wings.
