The over-age OHL forward is enjoying an outstanding season with the North Bay Battalion, scoring 41 goals and 47 assists in 64 games. Russell finished 10th in the league with 88 points.
Sharks prospect Brandon Coe’s teammate, Russell currently leads the OHL playoffs with 11 goals and is second with 22 points. The Battalion begin the OHL Eastern Conference finals against the Hamilton Bulldogs tomorrow.
“Mitchell is a character player and leader on the ice with good production that helps his team win,” San Jose Sharks interim GM Joe Will said in a team press release. “He has a strong pedigree as a skater who was selected in the first round of the OHL Draft.”
The 6-foot-0, 193-pound forward didn’t play last year because the OHL canceled their 2020-21 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When I hear people say that Sommer didn't do his job well, they just don't have a clue.
He put 150 players into the NHL (many of them impact players).
He also evolved, hockey-wise. The AHL that he started in bears little resemblance to today's AHL.
