The San Jose Sharks made two trades yesterday, could they keep it going during the Draft?

Yesterday, the Sharks acquired Mackenzie Blackwood from the New Jersey Devils for a 2023 sixth-round pick. They then sent out Andrew Agozzino to the Anaheim Ducks for Andrej Sustr.

BREAKING: Sharks Acquire Blackwood, Sustr

Today, Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff reported that the San Jose Sharks could be a landing spot for Pittsburgh Penguins blueliner Jeff Petry. Petry, 35, is considered to be on the decline and has a $6.25 million AAV in each of the next two years. So this would be a salary dump, and you’d expect GM Mike Grier to extract a price for that.

“It’s believed San Jose is a potential landing spot for Petry, while the Pens are also among the teams believed to be interested in Kaapo Kahkonen,” Seravalli wrote.

Seravalli reported two weeks ago that teams were interested in the San Jose Sharks goalie.

SJHN Daily: Teams Interested in Trading for Kahkonen?

“There are a few teams that view Kahkonen as a worthy rehab project and think he can bounce back into being a quality NHL netminder next season and beyond,” he wrote then. “They think he has the tools to be an immediate No. 1 again.”

Kahkonen struggled this past season, though he wasn’t helped much by a shallow San Jose Sharks roster. Per Evolving Hockey, Kahkonen had a -21.19 Goals Saved Above Expected, third-worst in the NHL.

You would think, considering that the Sharks gave up a top-four defenseman in Jake Middleton for Kahkonen during the 2022 Trade Deadline, that San Jose wouldn’t give up on the 26-year-old netminder so fast.

On the other hand, they gave up on Adin Hill, also in his 20’s, in about a year: In Jul. 2021, GM Doug Wilson sent out a second-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes for Hill. After an injury-plagued campaign, in Aug. 2022, San Jose accepted a fourth-rounder from the Vegas Golden Knights for Hill.
