SJHN Daily: Could Karlsson, Kane Reunite in Edmonton?

It appears that the Edmonton Oilers have some interest in Erik Karlsson.

“The Oilers need a top defenceman,” TSN’s Darren Dreger said on Insider Trading yesterday. “Now, do they get wild and crazy and try to swing for the fences and try to get in on Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks? It seems impossible that they could do that, but there’s some around the organization with interest.”

If you’re looking for an Oilers perspective, David Staples outlines some of the reasons why such a trade would be far-fetched.

Not mentioned, Karlsson has a complete No-Movement Clause, and there’s no telling if he would want to go to Edmonton.

One possible reason why not? Evander Kane joined the Oilers last year after being drummed out of the Sharks locker room. We’re still not sure of all the forces behind that, but Karlsson never came to the defense of Kane, at least in public, last year.

It’s worth noting that Karlsson took a more conciliatory tone at the end of last season, acknowledging that while the San Jose room was better without Kane, it wasn’t just a one-man problem.
