San Jose Sharks
Reimer Hopes to Return Friday or Tuesday
San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer returned to the ice after practice today.
This was the first time he’d been on the ice since suffering a setback during the Sharks’ Canadian road trip.
“It’s nothing major,” Reimer told San Jose Hockey Now. “It’s just kind of day-to-day, and it’s kind of lingering around. So it’s one of those things where there’s a bit of an ebb and flow to it. Right now, we’re flowing in the right direction.”
Reimer was placed on IR back on Nov. 28th, but the goalie revealed that the injury occurred in the Sharks’ 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 25.

“It just kind of popped up a little bit that day, and it just wasn’t comfortable,” Reimer said after practice today. “Obviously, it sucks. [I’m] just trying to get back to close to 100% so that I can help the squad.”
This is the same injury that sidelined Reimer on Nov. 23 when the San Jose Sharks visited Seattle. It’s believed that Reimer suffered this injury on Nov. 21, when he backed up Kaapo Kahkonen against the Ottawa Senators.
Reimer told SJHN that he didn’t push the injury very hard today and was just taking baby steps. Reimer does have a time frame for when he hopes to return to action.
“I mean, we’re blessed with a lot of days off here,” Reimer said. “I’d like to be back tomorrow, but that’s not the case. So probably, my guess is Friday or Tuesday is kind of what I have in my mind.”
He added: “We’re just trying to take it not necessarily slow but smart so that this is in the rearview mirror.”
Goaltenders Kaapo Kahkonen and Aaron Dell were forced into action as San Jose Sharks went 1-3 during their recent road trip through Canada and Buffalo.
The San Jose Sharks face the Vancouver Canucks at home tomorrow and have already announced that Kaapo Kahkonen will start. Dell was sent back and prospect Eetu Makiniemi will back up Kahkonen..
