BREAKING: 2024 AHL All-Star Game Coming to San Jose

The AHL’s marquee event is coming to San Jose.

The league announced today that the 2024 AHL All-Star Game would be coming to yet-to-be-opened Tech CU Arena on Feb. 4 and 5, 2024.

“It’s the largest event that the American Hockey League puts on during the year,” San Jose Barracuda director of business operations Eric Grundfast said.

In conjunction with the All-Star Game, the AHL traditionally holds a Board of Governors meeting and its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on site in the host city. There will also be a Skills Competition.

Getting the All-Star Game is yet another jewel in the Barracuda’s crown, as the San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate steps out of the parent NHL club’s shadow.

It all starts with the Barracuda’s sparkling new home, a 4,200-seat arena where the Cuda will be the primary tenant. Tech CU Arena is set to open this fall.

First up is the 2022 Rookie Faceoff in September, which will open Tech CU Arena. The San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, Arizona Coyotes, and Colorado Avalanche will participate in this annual prospects tournament. It’s San Jose’s first time hosting.

There’s no doubt that the new arena played a big part in the Barracuda receiving both the 2022 Rookie Faceoff and the 2024 AHL All-Star Game.

“It’s a very significant step to a franchise to get this, their own building. It’s a perfect size for the American League. It’s a perfect size for the Barracuda. We wanted to showcase it to the world and to the players,” AHL commissioner Scott Howson said. “I got a tour of the new building and it’s going to be spectacular. It’s going to be spectacular for the Barracuda franchise and for the Sharks and their prospects.”

This will be the second time that the AHL All-Star Game has been held in California. Ontario hosted in 2020.

The San Jose Sharks last had an NHL All-Star Game in Jan. 2019.
