TAMPA, Fla. – Good news for Alexander Barabanov?

On Tuesday night, a Mike Hoffman shot hit Barabanov’s left hand. It was friendly fire between the San Jose Sharks teammates, but Barabanov suffered a broken finger.

Head coach David Quinn said at morning skate today that Barabanov is headed back to San Jose today to see a specialist for his broken finger. Per the San Jose Sharks, Barabanov has been placed on IR.

For now, Quinn called the injury week-to-week, though that’s pending Barabanov’s specialist visit. But week-to-week is a whole lot better prognosis than month-to-month.

“We’ll have a clearer picture after he gets back,” Quinn said.

Add Barabanov to the San Jose Sharks’ walking wounded, which includes top centers Logan Couture and Mikael Granlund, both out with week-to-week lower-body injuries. Defenseman Jacob MacDonald also has a week-to-week lower-body injury.

A significant Barabanov injury is exactly what the 0-5-1 Sharks didn’t need, in their quest to rise above the depths of the Pacific. It’s also a big blow to the 29-year-old winger, who’s set to become a UFA after this season.

Six games into this campaign, Barabanov has zero points in six games. But before this year, the skilled winger had put up 93 points in 147 contests with the San Jose Sharks.
