Revisiting Sharks’ 2018 Draft Class

Published

on

The old adage is that you can’t judge a draft class until five years after. It’s time to revisit the San Jose Sharks’ 2018 draft class and what lessons can be learned from a class that no longer has a representative in the Sharks’ system. Also, make a “hindsight is 20/20” pick for each of the Sharks’ picks and who would have been the best pick knowing what we know now. Start with the first-round pick, Ryan Merkley, and what went wrong for Merkley and how the San Jose Sharks can’t ignore red flags going forward. Next, Linus Karlsson is shaping up to be a good prospect for the Vancouver Canucks, and why the Jonathan Dahlen trade was the Sharks trying to find a shortcut (11:00). Were the Sharks patient enough with Jasper Weatherby, or did they realize his ceiling (16:00)? Is there still a chance that Zachary Émond can turn into anything or is his lack of playing time a sign (21:00)? Finally, was John Leonard the Sharks’ best pick in his round of the 2018 Draft (24:00)?
