Mikael Granlund is headed to the IR.

According to San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn, the center re-aggravated a lower-body injury, suffered during training camp, during the second shift of last night’s 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

“You could tell he was half of himself,” Quinn lamented. “A lot of uncharacteristic things that happened yesterday from his end of it.”

Granlund pushed himself to play until about midway through the third period, but he clearly wasn’t at his best last night.

In camp, Granlund was a last-minute scratch before a Sept. 26 pre-season contest against the Anaheim Ducks. He skated off and on, until returning to action during the San Jose Sharks’ pre-season finale on Oct. 5.

The 31-year-old Finn, a key piece in August’s Erik Karlsson trade, will miss at least a week. That should be the rest of the homestand, games against the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Boston Bruins.

That’s a best-case scenario for the San Jose Sharks. But my feel, it’s a wait-and-see situation.

“Hopefully,” Quinn said, “it won’t be for long.”
