Couture ‘Longshot’ To Play Opening Night

San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn insists that Logan Couture is feeling better.

And that maybe the case, but more than two weeks into training camp, Couture still hasn’t skated, felled by an off-season lower-body injury.

Opening night is a week away, Oct. 12 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

“It’s probably a long shot as we stand here today,” Quinn conceded.

However, the San Jose Sharks bench boss wouldn’t go as far as ruling out Couture for next Thursday. He mentioned that Couture could skate as soon as tomorrow and has previously stated that the captain didn’t need a pre-season game to be ready for the regular season.

On the other hand, this isn’t the playoffs, so the emphasis is on getting the San Jose Sharks star as healthy as possible, so he doesn’t re-aggravate the injury. They’re not going to rush him.

So how many days (or weeks) will Couture, who hasn’t had any on-the-ice training camp, need to skate to play in an NHL game? Opening night or otherwise?

That’s still up in the air.

“We’ll have a much better barometer when he gets out there and see how he feels,” Quinn said. “Then maybe we’ll have an idea.”
