NASHVILLE — The San Jose Sharks have selected winger Kasper Halttunen out of HIFK of the Liiga with the 36th-overall pick.

The 6’3″, 207-pound Halttunen scored 18 goals and 6 assists for the Helsinki U20 team in 18 games, he also played 27 games in the Liiga where he added an assist in 27 games. Halttunen has a lethal shot and should add some more scoring pop to the Sharks prospect pool.

Per the Elite Prospects NHL Draft Guide:

“He did cap off the season on a strong note, playing arguably his best hockey of the season at the U18s.

“There’s no denying Halttunen’s ability to rip the puck. He’s got a one-timer from the left half wall that power plays can be built around, even at the next level. He’s not shy about using it either, surpassing 15 shots on goal on multiple occasions this season.”

Halttunen is under contract for HIFK through the 2023-24 season.
