SJHN Daily: Government Demands Hockey Canada Change “Deeply Entrenched Culture”
The Canadian federal government has frozen funding for Hockey Canada until they can provide a plan to properly handle sexual assault and abuse investigations, per TSN.
A second stipulation to the unfreezing of funds is that Hockey Canada agrees to hand over the investigation of allegations to the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner, a new group set up to oversee the process of investigating and practices of sports organizations. Also per TSN, the office began accepting complaints on June 20 of this year.
However, even if Hockey Canada agrees to these requirements, the situation isn’t going away any time soon as many are still questioning how Hockey Canada and the CHL have handled the 2018 World Juniors/CHL sexual assault scandal.
Will also subpoena the Canadian Hockey League, the OHL, WHL and QMJHL and the Minister of Sport. This committee is not fooling around. https://t.co/hR1SmjyqWx
