San Jose Sharks
HOW?? Sharks Blow 2-Goal Lead With Less Than 2 Minutes Left to Lose 5-4 in OT
The San Jose Sharks visit the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena. Oskar Lindblom gave the Sharks an early 1-0 lead, Nick Bonino, Mikey Eyssimont, and Mario Ferraro scored, but the Canes stunned the Sharks, down 4-2, to tie the game with less than two minutes left. Carolina completed the comeback with a 5-4 OT victory.
Period 1
2 in: Ferraro does a good job outskating Necas to a puck sent back in zone.
5 in: Sturm smart, gets puck ahead to open area, Gregor jumps on it. Gregor shot creates big rebound for Bonino.
7 in: Hahn notes MacDonald wearing No. 9, first Sharks player to do it was Brian Lawton, last one, Hahn says hurriedly, Evander Kane. Topic changed. Lol.
8 in: MacDonald fires off a good shot from dot, set up by Couture. So productive in the AHL, I wonder what he can’t access at NHL level to be even half as productive here.
9 left: Gotta love that Labanc hustle to strip I think Pesce from behind. That’s making yourself noticed in a good way.
6 left: Ferraro had a chance in NZ to distribute to Sturm on the rush, but right into Sturm’s skates. Those are the little plays that he needs to make to get to another level.
Lindblom goal: Svechnikov does fantastic job of staying onside, stretched out as Lorentz handles puck on entry.
de Haan goal: Would guess Reimer would want that back? Couldn’t get set on de Haan after rebound.
1 left: But Reimer answers back with a huge save on Necas. MacDonald smoked by Canes forechecker in corner, he gets to puck but wires it too hard on rim. Then it looks like a Canes point shot or pass gets caught in Ferraro’s feet, Necas pounces, good chance, better save.
San Jose Sharks, actually, played a pretty good first period. SJS 3-2 Slot Shots.
Period 2
1 in: MacDonald does a good job staying with Svechnikov, Andrei edition in a one-on-one situation.
8 in: Brilliant rush, led by Karlsson, Eyssimont exits zone, immediately gives it to Karlsson, who enters, holds a beat to draw in a man, then passes it into an area where Eyssimont can skate into. Eyssimont follows by showing good vision to see Couture from the corner of eye, hits Couture on other side. The captain cuts toward the middle, might be blocked, but nice play all around.
Wonder who will replace Nieto as Couture's PK'ing partner? Lorentz here? Or Sturm, who's in the box?

5 left: Gotta love Meier trucking Skjei after the Canes blueliner knocks down Labanc. Shows some meanness, the good kind.
3 left: Svechnikov showing a little more spark than I think I’ve seen from him in a while, wraparound chance. I like him below the dots, if he can concentrate there, get help from teammates in other areas of the ice, maybe there’s a regular player there.
2 left: Karlsson doesn’t pick up his guy, I think. Megna, I think correctly, takes the high man on a potential Canes 2-on-1. Noesen driving the net, that’s Karlsson’s man, but Karlsson doesn’t push to catch him. Not sure if there was a misunderstanding, but Reimer bails him out when the high pass connects for a heeled Noesen one-timer.
Then Labanc does a nice job of jumping the Canes pass to their point, Hedican shouted it out. Details like that are what make a one-dimensional player more.
I’ll need to see a better replay, but I don’t think that Sturm call that unwarranted based on views I’m seeing. But I need to see a full replay, the camera cut right when Sturm was in Martinook’s path.
#SJSharks hanging in there against Canes: CAR 11-10 Slot Shots, SJS 10-6 Even Strength in that category. Need just one good period…once again

Period 3
Aho goal: Oh man, Couture had a beeline for rim around Raanta, but looks like it bounced on him. Canes go on rush, Aho beats Sharks down the ice. Former San Jose Sharks waiver claim Stefan Noesen gets the assist.
Canes starting to pour it on Sharks last five minutes. Sharks have been here so often this year, honestly, it’s a struggle to keep your head up I think. Reimer doing his best to stem the tide.
Bonino goal: San Jose Sharks keep pulling you back in haha. Great play by Eyssimont to not allow Kotkaniemi to dump in, he blocks that, draws in Cane as he enters zone, slides it to Bonino who has beat Pesce. Looks like Pesce fully expected a successful dump-in, he was out of position on Bonino, so don’t blame Pesce there. Nice finish by Bonino.
Eyssimont goal: Whoa. The San Jose “Hate Bedard” Sharks haha.
Maybe not. I’ll take a look at the Carolina tying goals in a second, I actually was silly enough to think the Sharks had this game in the bag after the Ferraro ENG.
