The San Jose Sharks swim south for their third pre-season game, taking on the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.

Justin Bailey and Nathan Todd scored in a 4-2 loss to the Ducks.Sharks Lose Simek, Zadina to Injury in 4-2 Loss

Period 1

Zadina on it to start game, beats Henrique one-on-one along wall, that’s impressive. That’s no AHL’er.

3 in: Bordeleau jumps a pass in NZ, interception! Nice work there. But I don’t love his spin-o-rama hope pass to Zadina. Be direct. If you’re gonna try that, gotta connect.

8 in: Just in contrast, Smith screaming down wing, but he’s cut off, he fires a hard shot at Dostal instead of going for something fancy. It’s not great, but it’s better than a turnover that feeds transition the other way.

Bailey goal: His size and speed has been obvious in this game. Wonder why he hasn’t really made it. Provides screen, Gushchin fires it from flank, easy tap-in for Bailey.

5 left: Physical shift and puck movement from Okhotiuk. What you’re looking for from him. Shoulders Gaucher off puck.

Mintyukov goal: Seeing-eye from point.

De Leo goal: Romanov might want that back. Decent scoring area, but need a stop at some point. Maybe Okhotiuk wasn’t high up enough either, to cut off De Leo in slot?

1 left: I like Bordeleau here though, attacking Ducks defense, attacking bigger Carrick, squirting it through d-men’s feet and beating him to puck. You can get inside without brute force too.

San Jose Sharks looking for offense? Gushchin gets a spin with Bordeleau-Zadina to end period.

Period 2

San Jose Sharks trying Benning-MacDonald-Coe-Robins-Peterson as PP2.

Raska will return, but Simek doubtful. Gotta feel for oft-injured Simek.

3 in: Gushchin has been very effective on power play. Zadina high slot.

5 in : Peterson has been way more apparent tonight. Shovels it into slot, not precise pass, but pressure forces Dostal into big save.

7 in: Don’t like that hope point pass from Gushchin to Thrun in high slot. Has to travel too far, no mustard, never had a chance. Turnover, that’s the kind of play that can get you benched, in my opinion.

Leason goal: Bordeleau overpowered in faceoff circle by Henrique. That’s the concern with him. Thrun stuck negotiating 2-on-1 situation against Henrique and Leason.

9 left: Good PP entry, Thrun goes back, F1 on him, but he’s able to put it in a space that Bordeleau can swoop in. TB17 makes a solid transition pass to Zadina, easy entry. Great puck movement by everyone on PP1.

7 left: Stream scrambly, but looks like a decent bounce stretch pass from Okhotiuk. He looks improved from his first game.

3 left: Zadina and Thrun getting look on top PK unit.

1 left: Zadina stands out in his ability to transition from defense to offense, nice job on that PK to jump on loose puck and push D back. Can see why he’s been so enticing over the years, the pieces seem to be there, but production hasn’t followed.

Period 3

McGinn goal: Romanov for sure will want that back.

Todd goal: Okhotiuk stretch pass springs Cassels and Todd. Todd has been pretty effective tonight.

7 in: Coe gets loose puck along wing, one-on-one, would like him to attack instead of settle for perimeter pass into slot that misses.

That looked like a board from Killorn to Zadina. Cheap and unnecessary, on first look.
