Is Adin Right Hill for Sharks to Die On?

Published

on

KyleErik, and JD analyze Adin Hill and what he means to the San Jose Sharks after the weekend’s trade. We look into Hill’s stats, his potential role on the Sharks (9:00), and if the Sharks are done adding to the goalie room (12:00). We then discuss the actual trade and the comparison to the Martin Jones trade (15:00) and if the Hill trade makes sense for where the San Jose Sharks currently are as an organization (21:00).

It just doesn’t matter who is in net for Sharks. They are by far the worst defensive team in league and will continue to be that with guys like Karlsson and Vlassic, and let’s not forget other than Couture the forwards are just as bad as Karlsson and Vlassic.

I guess I’ll die on this Hill. I appreciate you guys coming out here and giving us information and thoughts.
I like Hill and listening to DW ( which I’m prone to do) he did his due diligence on Adin and I trust that. I also believe that we can be better with a goalie that battles outwardly, look at how our boys played while Dubnyk held the pipes. The draft pick is always a crap shoot. There are no guarantees. I’d rather have the guy who has some time in the NHL.

Curious why you guys are talking about Vitek Vanecek like he’s a better option. He has less NHL games, he’s smaller and he played on a better team and had marginally worse numbers…

it’s true that Vanecek is a “smaller goalie” but he’s got loads of skill. he’s had some consistency issues, but he was in a 1A/1B duo (37 GP this season) with Samsonov (until Covid). the guy is an NHL goalie, no doubts. Caps were forced to make a choice. i took him in my mock SEA expansion draft.

to your point, if people are happy spending a high 2nd in a loaded draft on Vanacek or even Driedger, they should be fine spending it on Hill. i checked on goalies that played over 800 minutes this last season and Hill/Driedger are both 83% on HDSV. Driedger’s 2 years older. Driedger also had an overall better SV% and has more history. Vanecek’s HDSV% was close enough to 80% to call it that. he also had the most playing time (1,700+minutes at 5v5). Vanecek had a better (83%) HDSV% short-handed than either.

SEA finalizing deal with Driedger (will satisfy FLA’s pick in expansion draft). $3.5Mx3 reportedly.

Hill’s deal likely to resemble that one.
