The San Jose Sharks are going to look different this season with their California Golden Seals-inspired Reverse Retro jerseys.

REPORT: Is This Sharks’ New Reverse Retro Logo?

But are they going to look radically different, with a rebrand of their regular home and away jerseys?

Ali Murji was the first on this, and it was further confirmed by hockey design insider icethetics:

This isn’t necessarily the final design, by the way, but at the very least, there’s every indication that this is a legitimate redesign concept, and probably more than that.

Not that icethetics needs more confirmation, but it’s worth noting that Murji dropped another mock design, the Vegas Golden Knights’ upcoming Reverse Retro, which a source tells me is very accurate.

So apparently, Murji isn’t pulling stuff out of thin air.

But back to the San Jose Sharks’ prospective new look, which icethetics suggests might be for the coming season and Murji says is for 2023-24.

Just wow.

I do like the “color rush” of teal, but it also reminds me a lot, maybe too much, of the Winnipeg Jets’ regular kit, which leans hard into the navy blue like the Sharks are apparently leaning into teal, pants included.

That might be the biggest difference between this mock-up and previous Sharks jerseys, the San Jose Sharks going away from black pants for the first time in franchise history.

It’ll take some getting used to, but I’m open-minded. I’m looking forward to seeing this rebrand in living color, as opposed to this smuggled – I’m joking, I think – screenshot.
