This article is in French, so to assure 100 percent accuracy, I asked my good friend and native French speaker Jeremy Ventuso to translate Vlasic’s quotes:

“Each time they ask me how I see the next season, I say that it can’t be worse than last year. However, I also said that last year and in the end it was worse than the year before! Two years without making the playoffs is unacceptable for us. During my first 13 seasons we made the playoffs and were competitive until the end. This year, we don’t have a choice. If we miss the playoffs three years in a row, things are gonna blow up in San Jose. We went and got some good veterans with depth. We are going to make the playoffs.”

“There’s a difference between being good on paper and being good on the ice. Everybody has to show up and play their role, accepting that he might not score 50 goals, but that he will bring something else to the team. If we do that, we will be successful. In recent years, I think we weren’t on the same wavelength. Each player was doing his own thing on the ice and there wasn’t really any cohesion.”

“There have always been controversies surrounding him [Kane] since he’s been with us and that was the case when he was in Winnipeg too. It’s a sad story for him and his family. Personally, I think that’s his business and it’s up to him to manage that with our boss (general manager Doug Wilson). If he comes back, it won’t be a distraction in the locker room as long as he shows up to the arena and does what he has to do to help the team. The rest of it is personal and I wish him and his wife all the best.”
