Preview/Lines #75: Thrun Admires Slavin’s Game
Henry Thrun didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, and it’s not because he’s making his NHL debut tonight.
“A fire alarm actually went off in the middle of the night,” the recent San Jose Sharks signing reported with a laugh this morning.
Hopefully, Thrun will get a pre-game nap in, as the young defenseman is going to up against the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights in his NHL debut. The 6-foot-2 left-hander will be paired with Radim Simek.

The 22-year-old, most recently Harvard’s captain, signed a two-year entry-level contract on Saturday. There’s a lot of excitement in the San Jose Sharks organization surrounding Thrun, who the Sharks traded a 2024 third-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks for on Feb. 28. League-wide consensus is that Thrun has the makings of a future top-four blueliner.
“Growing up, I was always really a fan of [Jaccob] Slavin. Obviously, someone that sort of does it all and just really relied on in Carolina,” Thrun shared. “He’s really, really solid defensively and provides a lot of sneaky offense for him. If I could become half the player he is, that would make me really happy.”

Also, Andrew Agozzino was sent back to the San Jose Barracuda. Matt Benning will not play tonight because of a day-to-day lower-body injury. Alexander Barabanov remains out. And Evgeny Svechnikov was back on the ice again for practice, that’s two straight days that he’s practiced. Per Quinn, that’s definitely a positive sign for Svechnikov’s possible return this season.
