The San Jose Sharks visit Canadian Tire Centre to take on the Ottawa Senators.

Anthony Duclair and Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Kevin Labanc and Filip Zadina scored, but the Sharks lost a last-second game 5-4.

Period 1

Giroux goal: Oh man, tough luck. Hertl circling back in zone, didn’t realize there was a broken stick in D-zone. Turnover right in front Blackwood. Sharks can’t kill a player there.

Chabot goal: Carpenter line just can’t kill a play. They’re close but not quite there. Batherson shakes Hoffman then ragdolls Okhotiuk netfront. Then a tired Labanc, out there for about a minute, looks slow closing on Chabot.

Duclair goal: San Jose Sharks really, really needed that. Good job by Kunin to jump on Chabot having trouble with the puck in NZ for 2-on-1. Then strong forecheck by Barabanov and Kunin keeps the puck in, both had a superb shift. Barabanov serves it up for Duclair high. Just San Jose’s second shot through 13 minutes.

7 left: Beaut entry on PP, off Zetterlund-drawn penalty, great puck movement, Eklund finds Zetterlund in the slot.

Very sluggish start for the Sharks, but they got going around Duclair goal. Even strength, San Jose 5-3 Slot Shots, 3-2 High-Danger.

Period 2

Zadina has another step there, forces a turnover, but Granlund offside. Almost a great play.

1 in: What happened there? Chartier coming down late, unattended. Huge Blackwood save.

Vlasic goal: Again, San Jose Sharks needed that. Sens had first six shots of period. But Eklund just snatches it from Chychrun high. Then does Vlasic beat Stutzle up the ice? Gotta watch that again. Camera had Vlasic behind Stutzle if I saw right, as Duclair and Granlund attacked. Good patience by Duclair.

5 in: Addison with a hard D-to-D pass at blueline to Okhotiuk. Small play but impressive skill. Had to thread that.

Labanc goal: Ferraro draws attention, great read by Ferraro to jump, Sens overreact and Labanc is left alone. You can also see why Sens’ record is what it is.  They are not dialed in at all defensively, with details. Young, talented, but not very smart.

Tkachuk goal: Takes one to know one, of course. Immediately after they take a surprise lead, Sharks neglect to take Tkachuk jumping off the bench. Looks like three Sharks, Duclair, Eklund, and Granlund converge on Batherson attacking middle. Duclair originally beat by Batherson and did not have a good shift, missed a couple chances to get it out, one a soft pass toward the middle that was intercepted. Then I think Eklund needs to let Batherson go, let center defensive freelancer Granlund step up after Duclair beat. No need for three Sharks there, for sure.

Batherson goal: Addison had an earlier chance to clear, but was pickpocketed. Hedican said Sharks needed to do better job of letting him know pressure coming. Then, he gives it up again on a clear, Sens counterattack. Batherson hangs in the weeds off to the side, wide rebound.

2 left: Good basic play by Bailey, just get it to the net with traffic in front.

Period 3

Outstanding PK shift by Hertl to start, Batherson hanging all over him, he gets it out, into OZ, makes a move, then passes it back to D. Salts away maybe 30 seconds off.

6 in: What a save on Batherson by Blackwood.

7 in: A basically 2-minute defensive shift for Ferraro and Vlasic. Team just can’t kill a play.

9 left: Barabanov has been tough and clever with puck tonight.

Zadina goal: Really nice keep-in by Ferraro. Good job overall by that line, hustle, keeping puck alive.

Tarasenko goal: I think that’s goalie interference.
