Logan Couture suffered more than just one defeat in Edmonton last week.

The San Jose Sharks lost 5-2 to the Oilers, Couture had to leave the game mid-way because of an upper-body injury, and…

“Megna [took over for Jake Middleton in the escape room]. We didn’t get out.”

Before Middleton was traded to the Minnesota Wild at the Trade Deadline, he was already talking about his excitement for the San Jose’s trip to Edmonton and the scheduled escape room. Tomas Hertl had let it slip recently that some Sharks had celebrated his eight-year contract extension in a Los Angeles escape room.

“We’ve been going into one in every city on the road,” Couture said in LA. “Our record is pretty good.”

So what happened in the Great White North?

Couture pointed out that escape room stalwart, Nick Bonino, wasn’t there, so it was just Couture, Hertl, Jaycob Megna, and Rudolfs Balcers on the clock.

An anonymous escape room source (Hint: He’s the captain of the San Jose Sharks) also noted, “Tommy wasn’t at his best.”

But seriously – Couture was lucky to escape with only a minor injury in Edmonton. He’s scheduled to play this Wednesday in Arizona after missing one contest.

Couture was hit in the back with a Brent Burns shot in the second period.

Boughner Hopes Just Day-to-Day for Couture Upper-Body Injury

“I tried to get out of the way,” Couture revealed today. “It got me right on the lung. I started coughing up a lot of blood down the hallway.

“Got an X-ray, and the doctor at the arena told me that I should go to the hospital before they would let me fly, just to make sure that my lung wasn’t punctured. It wasn’t, it was just a bruised lung, and I was able to get on that flight, get home with the guys.”

So disaster averted again for the San Jose Sharks, after Timo Meier left the previous game at Calgary with a serious-looking injury.

Meier OK: Expected to Play Tomorrow After “Scary” Injury

Couture didn’t get away scot-free from Burns’s missile though. He’s still feeling the effects today on his birthday.

“I was gonna golf, but I can’t now with my back. My dog got neutered this morning, so probably go home and check on him, and go to dinner,” Couture said of his 33rd birthday plans.
