You can go home again. And again. And again.

For a third time, Jonathan Dahlen will play for Timra. Yesterday, the SHL side announced that they had signed the former San Jose Sharks winger to a five-year contract.

Dahlen skated for Timra IK from 2014-18 before he joined the Abbotsford Canucks for the 2018-19 campaign. The 24-year-old winger then returned to his hometown club for the next two seasons before coming to San Jose.

Last year, Dahlen notched 12 goals and 10 assists in 61 games in his rookie NHL campaign. He was named Sharks’ Rookie of the Year. But that wasn’t enough to get new Sharks GM Mike Grier to qualify his contract, making Dahlen a UFA.

As recently as last week, Claes Elefalk, Dahlen’s agent, told San Jose Hockey Now that it was his client’s preference to play in either the NHL or Switzerland.

AGENT: Dahlen Prioritizing Signing in NHL or Switzerland Over Timra

I guess Dahlen couldn’t find a satisfactory offer in North America or Switzerland?

We’ll see if Dahlen completes his Timra deal. It will certainly have an out clause for an NHL team, and maybe even a Swiss squad.

Rasmus Kagstrom of Hockeysverige reminded SJHN that Marcus Sörensen signed a four-year deal with Djurgården last off-season, but left for National League side Fribourg in February, only five months into his SHL pact.
