San Jose Hockey Now has learned that Ivan Chekhovich will be heading back to San Jose to continue his resurgent year.

In October, the San Jose Sharks loaned their 2017 seventh-round draft pick to HC Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. This was after a difficult 2019-20 AHL campaign where he was healthy scratched multiple times with the San Jose Barracuda.

In Nizhny Novgorod, the Russian native found his game, scoring 17 goals and 17 assists in 43 games. Chekhovich, by and large, has drawn rave reviews for his play, including from Barracuda assistant coach Jimmy Bonneau last month.

The San Jose Sharks prospect helped HC Torpedo reach the playoffs, where they were eliminated by Ak Bars Kazan yesterday.

According to Chekhovich’s agent Mark Gandler, “Ivan is heading to San Jose. Will be there in 2-3 days.”

Presumably, after a one-week quarantine, Chekhovich will join the Barracuda. If he continues his scoring ways there, a call-up to the San Jose Sharks this season doesn’t seem out of the picture.
