Askarov Has Lower-Body Injury, Still Being Evaluated

Yaroslav Askarov has a lower-body injury.
On Wednesday night, Askarov left the first period of the San Jose Barracuda-Ontario Reign tilt with an injury.
Barracuda play-by-play announcer Nick Nollenberger believed the top San Jose Sharks prospect to have a lower-body injury, possibly left knee.
San Jose Hockey Now has confirmed, from the Barracuda, that Askarov “left the game with some lower body soreness”.
It’s not clear, however, if Askarov is dealing with a left knee injury.
Also not clear is when Askarov will return to action.
Multiple sources indicated that Askarov is still being evaluated. It appears that he’ll also have more tests later this week.
Hopefully, this isn’t a flare-up of the lower-body injury that Yaroslav Askarov suffered before training camp.
The San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate is next scheduled to play on Saturday at Ontario. Chances are, Askarov isn’t going to be available for this weekend swing through Ontario and the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Askarov was an AHL All-Star this year, posting a 10-7-1-3 record with a .922 Save %. He’s struggled recently, however, with an .852 Save % in the month of February.
In the NHL this season, the 22-year-old has a 4-6-2 record with an .896 Save % with the San Jose Sharks.
