Sharks Sign Cardwell, Guryev
The San Jose Sharks have signed Ethan Cardwell and Artem Guryev to three-year entry-level contracts.
The Sharks selected Cardwell in the fourth round and Guryev in the fifth round of the 2021 Draft.
Cardwell was just named the Sharks’ 2023 Prospect of the Year. The 5-foot-11 forward, best known for his speed, led the Barrie Colts with 43 goals and was second with 90 points this season.
Cardwell’s Colts are currently in the second round of the OHL playoffs.
“Ethan had a significant improvement in his OHL career this past year being one of the go-to players for his team in nearly all situations,” San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said in a team press release. “He has the ability to produce offensively and has helped be a driving force on a quality team as Barrie continues their postseason play.”
Guryev is a 6-foot-4 defense-first blueliner, who just hit career highs with seven goals and nine assists for the Peterborough Petes and Flint Firebirds this season.
“Artem is a gritty and competitive defender,” Grier said of the 19-year-old. “He showed continuous improvement in the OHL and uses his size to his advantage against opponents.”
Guryev’s Firebirds were eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs.
The San Jose Sharks should get a look at how both Cardwell and Guryev are progressing during their summer Development Camp.
