San Jose Sharks
Timo Meier & the Trouble With Doing Too Much | SJHN+
Carrying a team ain’t easy.
Timo Meier is one of the San Jose Sharks’ two 20-goal scorers, along with Tomas Hertl. That’s good. The Sharks, however, average just 2.66 goals a game, 24th in the NHL. That’s bad.
The 22-21-4 Sharks don’t win unless Meier or Hertl score — in fact, they’ve won just four games this year when neither Meier nor Hertl have scored a goal.
That’s Oct. 21 in Ottawa, Nov. 22 vs. Carolina, Dec. 2 at the Islanders, and Jan. 26 at Washington. It’s worth noting: In each of those victories, Meier or Hertl recorded at least one assist.
So the Sharks haven’t won a game this season when Meier or Hertl haven’t recorded a point.
So it stands to reason that Meier, leading the San Jose Sharks with 47 points in 42 games, might get frustrated in a game like last night. The Sharks, coming off a 12-day layoff, were stifled offensively by the Edmonton Oilers, to the tune of being outattempted 56-22 at 5v5.
TWENTY-TWO SHOT ATTEMPTS. AT FIVE-ON FIVE. FOR AN ENTIRE GAME. (I’M TYPING IN STEPHEN A. SMITH FONT).
