San Jose Sharks
Notes #40: 5 Goals for Meier! Sharks Topple Kings 6-2

The San Jose Sharks welcome the Los Angeles Kings to SAP Center. It wasn’t much of a welcome though, as Timo Meier made franchise history by scoring five goals — he’s the first San Jose Sharks player in team history to achieve that feat — and the Sharks crowned the Kings 6-2.
The last time #SJSharks #GoKingsGo played a game with both teams in the playoffs?
It's been FIVE years: 12/23/17 at San Jose, Jones shut out LA 2-0

Period One
Meier goal: And that’s why you put your five most-skilled players on the same power play. Good read by Burns to enter zone by himself instead of typical drop pass, then high-end puck movement from Karlsson to Burns to Meier.
Eight in: Fantastic defensive-offensive shift from Karlsson. Breakouts under duress, vision and aggressive play in OZ.
Nine left: Anderson did just take Karlsson on outside there. Not great D there.
Seven left: Couple examples of Ferraro and Burns holding pack on pinching on less than 50-50 pucks.
Six left: Like the San Jose Sharks system calls for, Karlsson up in middle of OZ, short circuiting Kings breakout, and he has proper forward support. Good defensive hockey.
Five left: Big save by Reimer on Danault in slot. Danault then pickpockets Meier attacking in NZ.
Balcers goal: Great individual effort by Hertl to keep puck up top from Maatta. That’s just a super high-skill play.
Reimer on Roy, Sharks lost him. Great save. Reimer is back in full effect.
Second hat trick of Timo Meier's career, last one was 12/28/19 vs. Flyers

Okay, maybe not. After a couple Meier goals for the hat trick, Reimer lets in one that should’ve been stopped to Kopitar. Breathing new life into Kings. That said, big Reimer saves earlier in the period set up San Jose Sharks to go bananas on Quick.
Meier, not surprisingly, paces all skaters with four Slot Shots on Net — nobody else on either team has more than one

Period Two
First four-goal game in Sharks history since Evander Kane on 3/16/18. No Shark has ever scored five goals in a game
— Sheng Peng (@Sheng_Peng) January 17, 2022
Sharks have 9 shots now, Meier has 5 of them lol

Period Three
Seven in: Merkley behind net, turns one way, doesn’t adjust to forecheck, meaning he tries to get puck through his committed way instead of adjusting. I mean who cares in a game like this? But those are small details that he has to work on with time.
Just 10,705 tickets sold to watch #SJSharks history

Palpable buzz any time that Meier touches the puck — crowd knows that they’re watching history.
TIMO chant starting up

Get-Meier-Six power play coming up.
