The last San Jose Sharks player to score four goals in a game was Evander Kane on Mar. 16, 2018 against Calgary.
Patrick Marleau achieved the feat on Jan. 23, 2017 versus Colorado, Tomas Hertl on October 8, 2013 against the Rangers, and Owen Nolan did it first on Dec. 19, 1995 in Anaheim.
Meier completed the “Rooster trick” in less than half the game, scoring a hat trick in the first period, then a goal just 1:24 into the middle frame.

Meier followed that up with his fifth late in the middle frame. He became the first player in San Jose Sharks history to score that many goals in a game.
Meier has become just the 56th player in NHL history to score five goals in a game (40th post-WWII). Just seven players have scored six, and only one (Joe Malone, 1/31/1920) has scored seven.
Post-World War II, just Darryl Sittler (1976) and Red Berenson (1968) have scored six.

This is just another feather in the cap for Meier, who’s enjoying a star-making campaign reminiscent of Owen Nolan’s 44-goal campaign in 1999-00.
Meier leads the San Jose Sharks with 45 points in just 35 games and was just selected to his first All-Star Game. The Swiss winger is the lone Sharks representative.
