Ferraro Wants To Stay in San Jose: ‘I have unfinished business here’
Mario Ferraro wants to stay in San Jose.
He might not have a choice in the matter, however. According to Elliotte Friedman, the rebuilding San Jose Sharks are listening to trade offers on him. It’s the insider’s belief that GM Mike Grier will be able to land quality assets for the minute-munching defenseman.
Friedman on Trading Ferraro: ‘They will be able to get good assets for him’
“I feel like I have unfinished business here,” the alternate captain told San Jose Hockey Now on Thursday. He says that he hasn’t talked about a potential trade with Grier.
Ferraro has heard the rumors though, via social media and messages from family and friends.
“This organization has done so much for me, right? I feel like I still owe them and the fans,” he said.
The San Jose Sharks selected Ferraro in the second round of the 2017 Draft, after a breakout campaign with the USHL’s Des Moines Buccaneers. Ferraro then went straight from two strong seasons with UMass Amherst, including a National Championship appearance, to the NHL in 2019-20.
Unfortunately, Ferraro’s meteoric rise coincided with the fall of the Sharks. From 2004 to 2019, San Jose missed the playoffs just once, making five Western Conference Finals and a Stanley Cup Final.
Ferraro, however, has never seen a post-season with the San Jose Sharks, four years and running. And this season isn’t looking any better on that front, after a 0-10-1 start.
Ferraro has seen all the bad – he wants to see some of the good: “I want to work towards building a Stanley Cup team here.”
