Sheng Peng: In the San Jose Sharks-Vegas Golden Knights’ rivalry, the Sharks are the big brother trying to get the cool little brother’s attention.
The last time that the San Jose Sharks beat Vegas was in Nov. 2019 — Peter DeBoer was still the Sharks head coach back then.
They didn’t beat Vegas in EIGHT tries last year.
Bob Boughner admitted yesterday that San Jose and Vegas are on different trajectories — the Golden Knights are a Stanley Cup contender, the Sharks will be lucky to make the playoffs.
But Boughner also said that this Sharks team has better goaltending, better team defense, and plays a better team game than last year. Can they get little bro’s attention tonight?
Speaking of Boughner, he was not happy with Jonathan Dahlen’s first two games coming out of the All-Star break.
He wants more jump, more puck battles won and energy on the forecheck from Dahlen. Yesterday at practice, he sent Dahlen to the fourth line.
There’s no concern here.
Dahlen is a great case of the ups and downs of the NHL season for a rookie
Before the All-Star break, we were talking about Dahlen’s fantastic road trip, the goals he scored versus the Panthers, etc..
Dahlen will start tonight on the fourth line next to Lane Pederson and Jeffrey Viel. He’ll also be on the power play. Bob says he could slide up and down the San Jose Sharks line-up easily.
For a goalscorer like Jonathan, it just takes one goal to start feeling good again.
