REPORT: Sharks Talked to Agent Allain Roy About GM Position?
The San Jose Sharks general manager search continues.
“Had heard San Jose talked to agent Allain Roy about its GM opening,” Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said in his 32 Thoughts column today. “He wouldn’t confirm or deny, but said, ‘My goal is to be the top agent for the next 20 years.’”
Roy’s agency currently represents Nico Hischier, Philipp Grubauer, and dozens more NHL’ers. In the San Jose Sharks organization, Roy represents Jeffrey Viel.
Add Roy to an uncertain list of Sharks GM candidates. The organization has done, by San Jose Hockey Now’s estimation (and investigation), a good job of keeping their supposed list of 20-25 candidates to themselves.
Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports confirmed that Ray Whitney interviewed for the Sharks GM position two weeks ago. Friedman believes that Roy and New York Rangers assistant GM Ryan Martin have also talked to the Sharks. He also believes that Kevin Weekes is “in the mix,” which fits with what SJHN has previously reported.
REPORT: Weekes Still “In the Mix” for Sharks GM, Martin & Botterill Also Candidates?
Seattle Kraken AGM Jason Botterill, Meghan Chayka, Tampa Bay Lightning AGM Mathieu Darche, Arizona Coyotes AGM John Ferguson Jr., Mike Gillis, Colorado Avalanche AGM Chris MacFarland, and Carolina Hurricanes AGM Eric Tulsky are other possible but unconfirmed candidates.
The Rangers, Tampa Bay, and Colorado are still competing in the playoffs, which might be slowing down the San Jose Sharks’ search. Some organizations prefer that their employees interview for jobs after the season.
