SJHN Daily: Sharks’ Dad’s Trip Pics, Chernyshov Off to Quick Start

The San Jose Sharks’ dad’s trip ended with a thud in a 6-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken, but they had a good time before that in the Emerald City.
A tradition started by the Nashville Predators in the late 90’s, the dad’s trip has become one of the most valuable moments for players every season, as it allows them to spend time with their fathers, and show gratitude for their support for their careers.
During the trip, the players’ fathers travel with the team and spend a considerable amount of time around them. They’re essentially part of the team for the duration of the trip.
The Sharks started the trip with a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 27, before heading out to Seattle, where they had a nice dinner on Wednesday.
Every year, these trips lead to some touching moments, and this year was no exception.

iirc, the 2023-24 salary cap was $83million. This season, its $88mil and these are the NHL/NHLPA cap forecast going forward: 2025-26: $95.5 million 2026-27: $104 million 2027-28: $113.5 million Under this scenario, the 2027-28 cap floor will be $84million — more than the salary cap from last season. With a lot of money to spend, teams that locked in top players at 2023 prices are likely to be very pleased. For example, Elias Pettersson’s deal ($11.6mil) looks bad at this moment. It’ll look great in 4 years, even if he isn’t quite as elite as some want/expect. 2027-28 is about when the Sharks… Read more »
I also wonder if there won’t be a lot of guys looking to sign 2 year deals to become free agents again in a couple years. That would be ideal for the Sharks, as they could sign 3 or 4 vets to deals like what Wennberg got and fill the gaps for veteran presence during the ascension. I still have unrealistic hopes that they can get a guy like Ekblad to buy in. He would make such a great pairing with Walman, I feel. Yes, to say it again, I know it’s unrealistic. But maybe they give Ekblad 4 years… Read more »
Chernyshov panning out would sure be a nice shot in the arm, at his size, he’s exactly the kind of player the Sharks need. Musty and Haltunnen are also bigger frames that the current roster sorely lacks. Rooting hard for the kids.
exactly
are there any restrictions on making trades during the 4 Nations tourney?
Some podcast i was listening to said no restrictions, but trades arent expected.
Yeah, guys on Puck Soup said there are definitely no restrictions. I’d be surprised if anyone in the tournament were traded.
JT Miller traded to NYR + Brannstrom + Dorrington (prospect).
Canucks get Chytil, protected 1st, Mancini (don’t know him)
No retained $$.
Top 13 protected is such an odd specification. There’s a very good chance NYR ends up with a top 13 pick, so high probability that they end up having to hand over their unprotected 2026 first in a deeper draft.
Kind of is. I almost think the protection is a bit too clever. If a team is going for it one year, they might find themselves down the next and giving up even more. If I was the Rangers and knowing this isn’t a deep draft (or so Ive heard), I might have just let that go — or maybe gotten a 4th rd pick instead of the protection. Think too many people are writing off the Rangers. Maybe they slip into the playoffs and while several guys are having down seasons, the room is talented. Kreider, Zibanejad (sic), Panarin,… Read more »
Interestingly the Canucks then went out and got Petterson from the Pens to prove they’re still going for it. The Miller trade realistically took NYR off the table for the Sharks as trading partners (even if the rumours of them willing to deal K’andre Miller are true, we no longer have anything they likely want) but perhaps VAN now has interest in Granlund to slot in over Chytil? Comparing this year to last year really reinforces that a huge boost to seller value is league parity: there are a lot more teams that could still *concievably* make the playoffs this… Read more »
