SJHN Daily: Ex-Jr. Sharks Coach Kevin Whitmer Arrested for Sexual Assault on Minor
Kevin Whitmer, an ex-Jr. Sharks head coach and skills coach, was arrested by the San Jose Police for allegedly perpetrating “a crime involving lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.”
According to the San Jose Police press release, they arrested the 32-year-old, along with Colorado Springs and Homeland Security Investigations Police in Denver, on Nov. 2.
The assaults allegedly occurred at Sharks Ice and at Whitmer’s San Jose home.
He was booked for “lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and possession of child pornography.”
According to Whitmer’s LinkedIn, he worked with the Jr. Sharks from Aug. 2017 to May 2023 in a supervisory role.
Sharks Sports & Entertainment, the parent company for the San Jose Sharks, released this statement earlier this week:
“We were made aware that a former Jr. Sharks youth hockey coach has been arrested by the San Jose Police Department. This individual has not coached in our program since May 2023 and none of these extremely serious allegations were brought forth to our organization while he was involved with the program. All of the coaches in our youth programs are pre-screened and SafeSport Certified as required by the governing body USA Hockey, and undergo a criminal background check. The safety and well-being of all of our youth participants and their families is our top priority and we intend to cooperate fully and completely with any investigation into this matter.”
He’s also listed as the assistant hockey director of Nazareth Ice Oasis.
He was also the assistant head coach of the Colorado Thunderbirds.
