BREAKING: Bordeleau Signs With Sharks, Should Make NHL Debut Tomorrow
That didn’t last long.
Just two games into his try-out with the San Jose Barracuda, the San Jose Sharks have signed top prospect Thomas Bordeleau to a three-year entry-level contract.
According to The Athletic, Bordeleau will join the San Jose Sharks in Minnesota tomorrow, so he will be burning a year off his ELC this season.

“Thomas is a skilled playmaker with a high hockey IQ at both ends of the ice,” Sharks interim GM Joe Will said in a press release. “He consistently shows up in high-level competition and has a history of playing his best in crucial moments.”
Bordeleau impressed in his two-game stint with the Barracuda, registering three assists in his pro debut on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, I spoke with an amateur scout from another NHL organization about Bordeleau’s season at Michigan and his NHL ceiling.
There will be some consternation about the San Jose Sharks burning a year off Bordeleau’s contract during a lost campaign. But don’t forget, coming out of the NCAA, the sophomore has negotiating power insofar as he can go back to Michigan next year. He can also be an unrestricted free agent if he’s unsigned by the Sharks after his senior season.
Essentially, this is the price of doing business with a top NCAA draft pick.
