Self-described “stick geek” Will Smith made a fine addition to his collection Monday morning.

The rookie forward met and received a hockey stick from Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews, following the San Jose Sharks’ morning skate in Toronto. It’s the second time that Smith has met Matthews.

“I’m into sticks a lot, so I try to ask some guys,” Smith said.

What were Smith’s first impressions on the fellow Team USA star’s weapon of choice?

“It’s all black … obviously the name plate says ‘Papi 34’ so I saw that quick,” Smith said. “Haven’t taken too deep of a dive, but I will later.”

The San Jose Sharks star rookie laughed when asked if he would seek out a stick from Alex Ovechkin, who is just 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record.

“I don’t know about that one, we’ll see,” Smith said.
