Sharks Locker Room: Quinn Benches Eyssimont, Zetterlund ‘Excited’ to Join Sharks

The post-Timo Meier era started with a 3-1 defeat for the San Jose Sharks at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens.

Jacob MacDonald, who scored his first goal as a Shark, talked about playing with new partner Radim Simek. Fabian Zetterlund described his game. Head coach David Quinn talked about benching Mikey Eyssimont, and Zetterlund and Andreas Johnsson’s Sharks debuts.

Jacob MacDonald, on his first game with Radim Simek:

He’s a great skater. Just makes my job easy with him out there. He can really wheel the puck. It’s helpful on breakouts and stuff like that.

Fabian Zetterlund, on his reaction to getting traded to the San Jose Sharks:

I saw the call from the GM of the Devils, kind of knew right away that I got traded. I was just happy coming here, get to know everyone here, and build some new chemistry. I’m really excited.

Zetterlund, on what he brings to table:

I want to be strong on the puck. Fast forward, kind of a power forward. Use my shot and my strength and take the puck to the net.

David Quinn, on the San Jose Sharks’ 3-1 loss:

I just thought we were too loose.

I just thought our reads, defenseman reads, we were giving up odd-man rushes. We were too loose.

You give up a 2-on-0 basically to lose the game, it’s just not really having a conscience. Not reading the situation.

Quinn, on Zetterlund and Andreas Johnsson’s San Jose Sharks debuts:

I thought they were effective. I thought they did some good things. It’s not easy stepping in, getting off the plane last night, coming to play right away.

Quinn, on Kaapo Kahkonen’s game:

Very good. He’s been good for a while.
