Sheng’s Daily: Emond Talks Hayward Tribute Mask, Rinaldo Loses Camp Invite Because He Won’t Get Vaxxed

My favorite thing about the 2021 Rookie Faceoff Tournament? It’s gotta be prospect Zachary Emond’s mask, a tribute to one of the first San Jose Sharks goalie masks.

Brian Hayward — currently the Ducks’ color commentator — played for the Sharks during their expansion season.
We caught up with Zach Emond at #SharksDevCamp to learn more about the inspiration behind his new goalie mask.
"It's also a tribute to [Brian] Hayward's mask from the past – I wanted a modern look to it." pic.twitter.com/pu75rHWqGq

Zachary Emond is clearly well-versed in his goalie history.
“I just like to follow goalie masks, goalie gear, Emond told San Jose Hockey Now. “I was playing for the [Rouyn-Noranda] Huskies so I wanted to do a little bit like Curtis Joseph.
“Coming in with the Sharks, I wanted to keep that same idea of having a head on it. I went for a Shark head and I remembered Hayward’s mask.”
Per mask artist sylabrush, it appears that Emond is now updating his rookie tourney set-up:
It looks like they added some water underneath the Sharks’ head — I like it, but I loved the cleaner, more direct Hayward tribute.

Been really impressed with Ozzy Wiesblatt (SJS) in today’s early game. Has a couple of goals and has been around the puck a lot. Playing a skilled game with some pace and tenacity. Playing his game much more comfortably today.
