BREAKING: Sharks Trade Eyssimont for Namestnikov

The San Jose Sharks have made a trade, sending Mikey Eyssimont to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Vladislav Namestnikov.
Shayna Goldman reported it first.
Eyssimont has been a minor revelation since the Sharks claimed him off waivers on Jan. 6 from the Winnipeg Jets. The winger has shown off a consistent compete and peskiness, and added a little offense, scoring three goals and five assists in 20 games in teal.
The 26-year-old, currently making the veteran’s minimum, is a pending RFA.
Namestnikov is a 10-year veteran with plenty of playoff experience to boot. He’s played for the Lightning, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Ottawa Senators. The center-winger has six goals and nine assists in 51 games this year and has surpassed 15-plus goals in a season three times.
The 30-year-old, who has a $2.5 million AAV, is a pending UFA. The Lightning are also retaining 50 percent of the veteran’s contract, meaning the Sharks are currently on the hook for just half of that $2.5 million cap charge.
The San Jose Sharks, according to David Pagnotta, are likely to trade Namestnikov before the Mar. 3 Trade Deadline. He should be easier to trade at $1.25 million AAV.
Before today, Namestnikov has been dealt three times in the last five years, 2019 (with Nick Ebert), 2020, and 2022, each time for a fourth-round pick.
The 2020 and 2022 swaps both occurred around the Trade Deadline.
The San Jose Sharks take on the St. Louis Blues tomorrow, we’ll see if Namestnikov will be available for that game or if he will be held out for trade-related reasons.
