The San Jose Sharks have traded Erik Karlsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins!

Sheng and Keegan McNally give their initial grades and reaction on an emergency episode of the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast. Why was Sheng at just a C-grade? Keegan liked the trade more, giving it a B+.

The full details of this three-team trade: The San Jose Sharks retain $1.5 million (13 percent) of Karlsson’s remaining AAV. They get Mikael Granlund, a 2024 first-round pick (top-10 protected), Mike Hoffman, and Jan Rutta.

The Penguins get Karlsson, a 2026 third-round pick, and Dillon Hamaliuk from the Sharks, and Rem Pitlick from the Montreal Canadiens. They also retain $1.56 million AAV  (25 percent) of Jeff Petry’s remaining AAV.

The Canadiens get Petry, Casey DeSmith, a Pittsburgh 2025 second-round pick, and Nathan Legare from the Penguins.
