Hertl Says “Yes?” to Sharks, Dahlen Hurt

LAS VEGAS — Check out my “Sharks Pregame Live” hit!

Sheng Peng: There’s good news on the Tomas Hertl front…we think?

The last time we spoke with Tomas about his contract was about three weeks ago.

He offered mixed signals about returning to the San Jose Sharks then.

We’re now three weeks away from the Mar. 21 Trade Deadline.

He says that discussions between his camp and the San Jose Sharks are ongoing.

I asked him if he could characterize the negotiations as positive or negative.

He laughed, and said, cautiously, “They’re positive.”

My takeaway is Hertl is media-savvy enough to give a non-answer to a yes or no question if he wants to.

So I’d say, as of today, March 1st, Tomas Hertl is saying “Yes?” to the San Jose Sharks.

Speaking of lukewarm news:

Bob Boughner told us, after Jonathan Dahlen got scratched against Seattle, that Dahlen had come to the rink that evening not feeling well.

It turns out that Dahlen was cross-checked high in the second period of Saturday’s loss versus Boston. He felt fine in game and when he came in the next morning for meetings.

However, when he came in right before the Seattle game, Bob says Dahlen wasn’t feeling well, he had whiplash-like symptoms.

Dahlen was scratched and the San Jose Sharks had scramble to find a 12th forward, which set the stage for Scott Reedy, who was literally sitting at home when the Sharks called him two hours before the game, to come in and score his first NHL goal and the game-winner against the Kraken.

Bob told us he wasn’t sure if Dahlen skated today in San Jose and is calling him day-to-day.
