Not Marchand, Marchant: Ex-Player/Current Sharks Exec Chirps Reporter on Twitter

On the same day that Brad Marchand took to Twitter to chirp a couple media members, Todd Marchant — now San Jose Sharks director of player development — took aim at Sportsnet reporter Mark Spector.

Spector, penning a tribute to the Edmonton Oilers’ old home Northlands Coliseum, now set for demolition by 2025, traced the arena’s history after the Oilers moved to Rogers Place in 2016.

For a while, there was hope that Hockey Canada would team up with the Oilers to turn the old barn into a multi-sheet rink with a hockey academy.

“But, alas,” Spector wrote, “like a Todd Marchant breakaway, it fizzled out as the goal line neared.”

Marchant skated for the Oilers from 1994 to 2003, and was known for his blazing speed but was not an elite finisher.

The speedster, however, was quick with a response for Spector:

Marchant included former Anaheim Ducks teammate Chris Pronger in his response, and most importantly, his series-clinching breakaway goal for the Oilers in their upset victory over second-seed Dallas Stars in first round of the 1997 playoffs.

Pronger was all too happy to tag-team the writer, who’s been covering the Oilers for over 30 years.
