SJHN Daily: Meier Rocked by Controversial Hit, Devils Advance
Timo Meier appears to be okay.
Meier left in the third period of Game Seven after getting rocked by Jacob Trouba in a controversial hit.

Despite what some people are calling me on Twitter, I stand by my comments from last night. The Trouba hit was legal if u can accept that he was attempting a full-body hit. The result was unfortunate. The refs interpreted the rule correctly. pic.twitter.com/1LBRdyMYFC

The ex-San Jose Sharks star, traded to the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 26, did return to the bench, but did not play after the hit. And after the Devils’ decisive 4-0 victory, he and Trouba exchanged pleasantries in the post-series handshake line.

No update on Meier from HC Ruff. He said he’s “anticipating good news.”
He noted Meier returned to the bench and said he was OK to play during Game 7.
And added: “He looks like an old fashion hockey player.”#NJDevils

Hopefully, Meier will be ready for Game One of Devils-Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. There, he’ll look to snap his playoff scoreless streak and clash with ex-Sharks teammate and current Canes defenseman Brent Burns.
For San Jose Sharks fans, this series has another layer of intrigue beyond Meier and Burns.
If New Jersey makes the Eastern Conference Finals and Meier plays in half of the club’s playoff games that season, the Devils’ 2024 second-round pick, sent to the Sharks in the Meier trade, becomes a 2024 first-rounder.
It’s the same stipulation next year too, except it’s not contingent on Meier playing half of the post-season schedule next year, just on New Jersey advancing to the conference finals.

Sources tell me that #SJSharks forward Fabian Zetterlund will be playing for Team Sweden during the upcoming World Championships. Zetterlund is paying his own insurance and the Sharks have been involved with the process.
