SJHN Daily: Who’s Best Shark at Pre-Game Soccer?

As far as hockey goes, San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier has had himself an excellent season with 30 goals and 51 points so far. However, if he is ever looking for a career change in the future, he showed on Thursday night that he may be able to make a go of it in soccer.

After initially appearing to want to swat the puck in the clip above with his hand, Meier instead headbutted a pass back to Erik Karlsson, much to the delight of the announcers. They weren’t the only ones impressed, either, as MLS team San Jose Earthquakes also took notice of the unique yet skillful play.

The San Jose Sharks, like most NHL teams, kick a soccer ball around in warm-ups. And naturally, Timo is tops in that pre-game routine.

At least, according to Meier himself!

“I would probably say I’m top-two,” Meier told San Jose Hockey Now last month. “Me and Bonino. [Oskar Lindblom] is pretty decent too.”

Of Connecticut native Bonino, Meier added, smiling, “He’s pretty good for an American.”
