San Jose Barracuda
BREAKING: Mukhamadullin To Start With Barracuda
Shakir Mukhamadullin will arrive in San Jose today.
The top defensive prospect, who the San Jose Sharks acquired from the New Jersey Devils in the Timo Meier trade, should start with the San Jose Barracuda. The Sharks assigned him to the AHL today.
The 20th pick of the 2020 Draft, the 6-foot-4 defenseman has played mostly with the KHL’s Salavat Yulaev Ufa for the last four years. The Russian blueliner is signed to an NHL contract and has been on loan to Salavat for the last two seasons.
He actually appeared in three playoff games with the Utica Comets last year.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season, pacing Salavat defensemen with 25 points. He played top-four minutes for the playoff side.
“He’s a really good prospect,” an NHL scout said about the San Jose Sharks’ prized prospect. “Length. Skating. Awareness. Can defend, move pucks, and provide secondary offense. Potential top-four D, potential on both sides of the puck and special teams. High ceiling.”
The San Jose Barracuda could use the help on their own playoff drive, with their top defenseman Derrick Pouliot with the San Jose Sharks right now. The Barracuda play tomorrow and Saturday against the Texas Stars, but there’s no word yet if San Jose Hockey Now’s No. 2 Sharks prospect will make his organizational debut this weekend.
