SJHN Daily: Pavelski, DeBoer Going to Conference Finals (Again)
Another two former San Jose Sharks are off to the Western Conference Finals.
Joe Pavelski, who missed the majority of the Dallas Stars’ first-round series after sustaining a concussion in Game One, went on to dominate the second round. In the Stars’ seven-game series against the Seattle Kraken, Pavelski tallied eight goals and an assist.
These eight goals broke the Stars’ franchise record for goals in a single playoff series, previously held by Steve Payne and Tony McKegney.
For Pavelski, this will be his second trip to the Conference Finals since leaving San Jose in 2019 as a free agent.
The other former Shark, current Stars head coach Pete DeBoer, continues to find success in his first season with new teams.
Pete DeBoer:
– Hired by NJ in 2011, goes from missing playoffs to Cup final
– Hired by SJ in 2015, goes from missing playoffs to Cup final
– Hired by VGK in 2019, goes from 1st round gm 7 OT exit to Conference final
– Hired by DAL in 2022, goes from 1st round gm 7 OT exit to…?— JFresh (@JFreshHockey) May 16, 2023
For DeBoer, this is his third trip to the Conference Finals since the Sharks fired him in Dec. 2019.
The Dallas Stars will take on the San Jose Sharks’ biggest rival, the Vegas Golden Knights, in the Western Conference Finals.
The Golden Knights, of course, have ex-Shark goaltender Adin Hill.
And over in the Eastern Conference Finals, Brent Burns and Stefan Noesen are playing key roles for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Burns to Conference Finals, Meier Trade Pick Will Be No. 25 or 26 for Sharks
Either way, there will be Sharks to cheer for in the Stanley Cup Final.
