GOTTA SEE IT: Even Couture Can’t Believe That Gregor Scored
If there’s one player on the San Jose Sharks who’s been…shall we say…unlucky when it comes to getting bounces his way, it’s Noah Gregor. With St. Patrick’s Day having just past, one had to think that his streak of bad puck luck had to end soon.
And, it’s not just fans who have been cringing every time he’s hit a post or shot it wide – the Sharks themselves are well aware of Gregor’s struggle to score even on high-quality chances. Entering tonight, Gregor had the lowest shooting % of any forward in the NHL with over 100 shots — that’s the worst of 190 qualified forwards.
So even Sharks captain Logan Couture was in disbelief when Gregor not only scored a goal tonight, but the game-winner in the San Jose Sharks’ comeback 4-2 victory over Arizona.

Behind the net, Gregor feinted a move one way, then went to other way to fool Coyotes netminder Karel Vejmelka.
Couture revealed that Mario Ferraro told him before the game, “Greggy’s scoring tonight.”
“I said no he’s not,” Couture shared, laughing.
Ferraro joked Gregor was going to score tonight

“So I was wrong,” the captain admitted with a huge smile.
Hearkening back to St. Patrick’s Day, it’s not the first time that Couture has gently ribbed Gregor for being the “unluckiest guy in the room.”

“I thought he was actually passing to me on his forehand side,” Couture said. “[But he] faked me out and then went back around and he fooled the goalie and no one was over there. So it was a great goal.”
Couture was just as enthused about Gregor’s overall game tonight: “I thought he was excellent all night…he’s had a lot of games like that this year where he’s been on pucks and moving his feet. He’s easy to play with. The pucks just haven’t gone in.”
San Jose Sharks head coach Bob Boughner agreed with his captain’s assessment, saying it was Gregor’s best game this year.
When Gregor was asked if Couture had told him yet that the captain didn’t believe in him, Gregor just laughed: “No, [he didn’t tell me], but I’m sure he was thinking it, and I’m sure he’s probably pretty happy when I got one in.”
