Sheng’s Weekend: Canadiens Embarrass Mailloux Victim, Hockey
The San Jose Sharks have drafted William Eklund!
Doug Wilson, Doug Wilson Jr., and Tim Burke tell us why they’re “over the moon” about their No. 7 pick:
William Eklund spoke to us about falling in the Draft, his admiration of Mat Barzal, and getting Erik Karlsson on his Dad’s YouTube show:
Eklund “Doesn’t Care” About Falling in Draft: “I’m so happy.”
What did Elite Prospects think about the Eklund selection? They loved it!
Okay, so my guy missed by saying that Eklund wouldn’t get to the San Jose Sharks.
Regardless, he shared plenty of interesting tidbits about the top-10:
The Locked On Sharks guys did it! They manifested Eklund to San Jose:

I stand by this tweet. But again, I emphasize the word DEPTH, and also that trades don’t complete on my time. So hang on.

The San Jose Sharks and Lean Bergmann have agreed to a mutual termination of Bergmann’s contract. It’s not a buyout — Bergmann’s contract will simply leave the books:

Around the NHL…
Wow. Montreal makes that very disappointing pick — putting it lightly — then it swings to scandal-ridden Chicago with the final pick of the first round. That's so NHL?
— Sheng Peng (@Sheng_Peng) July 24, 2021
I’m not entirely sure what the NHL can do here, but maybe they can pull the 2022 NHL Draft from Montreal to start.
Montreal took Logan Mailloux in the first round of the NHL draft — that tells you everything you need to know about the culture of toxic masculinity in hockey. (Hockey Unfiltered with Ken Campbell)
Multiple NHL teams had indicated they might pick Logan Mailloux in the 2nd round of the 2021 Draft despite his renouncing himself from being selected, source tells ESPN.
Given that @CanadiensMTL didn't pick again to No. 63, imagine that's why they took him at No. 31.

Mailloux will speak to the press this morning. Unless Montreal received the victim’s blessing — as Katie Strang alludes to here — this is very wrong. Just a reminder: Not getting drafted is not the end of Mailloux’s hockey career. I believe in second chances, but let him earn it over time. And by time, I don’t mean 30 fucking picks
I think the victim's perspective in this is an important one. I'd be curious to know whether Montreal reached out to the young woman who was impacted by Mailloux's crime https://t.co/FawKBVGe6I
